Yasmina Reza awarded Frank-Schirrmacher-Preis in Zurich

On Thursday, Yasmina Reza, the renowned French playwright, was honored with the Frank-Schirrmacher-Preis at the University of Zurich, a prestigious award worth 20,000 Swiss francs for her insights into contemporary issues. Notable past recipients include Ai Weiwei and Michel Houellebecq. Actor Christian Berkel lauded Reza, celebrated for her works 'Art' (1994) and 'God of Carnage' (2006). During her acceptance speech, she conveyed her modesty regarding accolades and her hesitance to label herself a writer. Reza shared her intrigue with figures such as Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, likening Trump to a character from Shakespeare. She also recounted her observations of Nicolas Sarkozy's 2006/07 campaign, which inspired her book 'Dawn, Evening or Night' (2007). Expressing concern for Europe's future, she concluded that a writer's duty is to portray both the madness and beauty of humanity.
