Wilhelm Sasnal Wins Rubens Prize of the City of Siegen

Wilhelm Sasnal, a painter and filmmaker from Tarnów, born in 1972, has been honored with the 15th Rubens Prize of the City of Siegen. This €25,000 award will be presented in November 2027, alongside a publication and an exhibition at the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen. The jury commended Sasnal for his "expressive kaleidoscope of the present," which intertwines personal narratives with collective memory and political issues. His artwork, which fuses analog and digital elements, reflects a unique visual language that balances figuration and abstraction. Recognized as a leading European artist of his generation, Sasnal's work has been displayed globally since the 1990s at notable institutions like the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Whitechapel Gallery London. The Rubens Prize, established in 1957, honors significant contributions to painting and graphics, with previous recipients including Francis Bacon and Cy Twombly. The Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen's Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection features works by all past winners.
