We Are Spastor Wins Spain's National Fashion Design Award

The Spanish fashion label We Are Spastor has been awarded the Premio Nacional de Diseño de Moda 2026 (National Fashion Design Award) by a unanimous jury. The jury praised the brand's courage and honesty in surviving a volatile sector while maintaining its independence. Founded in 1997 by Sergio Pastor, with Ismael Alcaina joining a year later, the label originally operated as Spastor. In 2001, they won the Best Collection award at Pasarela Cibeles. The brand showed at Paris Fashion Week and in Tokyo. At one point, Pastor and Alcaina withdrew to preserve creative freedom, but relaunched in 2019 as We Are Spastor. The jury highlighted the brand's disruption of Spanish fashion, its cosmopolitan outlook linking fashion to subcultures and contemporary art, and its gender-fluid approach blending classic tailoring with experimental silhouettes and materials. The award recognizes either a specific work from the previous year or a career body of work. Previous winners include Juana Martín, Teresa Helbig, Ángel Fernández Ovejero, Ana Locking, Antonio Alvarado, and Palomo Spain.
