Three Berlin Galleries Nominated for VBKI Prize 2025

award · 2026-07-20

The VBKI Prize Berliner Galerien, now in its tenth edition in 2026, has announced three nominees: Burster, Gudmundsdottir, and Super Super Market. The award, endowed with a total of 15,000 euros, is organized by the Verein Berliner Kaufleute und Industrieller (VBKI) together with the Landesverband Berliner Galerien (lvbg). The main prize of 10,000 euros will be awarded on September 11 at PalaisPopulaire during Berlin Art Week (September 9–13). The two runners-up receive 2,500 euros each. Eligible galleries must have been operating between three and 15 years and realize an exhibition project during Berlin Art Week. The jury selected nominees based on their concepts and will visit exhibitions in early September to determine the winner, evaluating both the exhibition project and the gallery's overall presentation. Burster, with locations in Berlin and Karlsruhe, presents the group show "Trace Metals" focusing on urban spaces and materiality. Gudmundsdottir features Mathias Gramoso's solo exhibition "Rhetorical Silence," including a seven-day performance. Super Super Market, founded in 2022 and based in Berlin-Mitte since 2024, presents Adrienne Maki's first European solo exhibition with new paintings and sculptures developed during a two-month residency in Berlin. The prize aims to strengthen Berlin's gallery scene internationally and is supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy, and Public Enterprises.
