Studio Sonda's Living Wine Label for Piquentum Wins Diamond at 2026 Pentawards

award · 2026-10-21

The label for Piquentum, created by Studio Sonda, is crafted from paper that incorporates some of the wine’s lees sediment, which is then colonized by noble mould in the cellar, leading to the gradual erosion of the gold serif wordmark. This sediment, a byproduct of secondary fermentation typically discarded during disgorgement, is combined with ten percent paper pulp sourced from the winemaker's notes and packaging. The substrate remains alive, allowing blue-grey and gold mould colonies to flourish, contributing to the final appearance. Each bottle features "PIQUENTUM" in gold serif capitals, with "BRUT NATURE" in smaller type beneath, all against dark brown paper on amber glass. The first batch consisted of 700 bottles in 2025, increasing to 2,000 in 2026 and 3,000 in 2027, while the restaurant list expands to 20, with a third of the bottles allocated for the USA and UK. The project won the Diamond award at the 2026 Pentawards.
