Spain's Premio San Clemente and TV show Un país para leerlo win National Reading Promotion Awards

The Spanish Ministry of Culture has awarded the 2026 Premio Nacional al Fomento de la Lectura to the Premio San Clemente and the television program Un país para leerlo, each receiving €30,000. The Premio San Clemente, with over 30 years of history, is a narrative prize judged entirely by high school students from ten schools in Spain, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. It has honored three Nobel laureates: Mario Vargas Llosa, José Saramago, and Han Kang. Recent winners include Ledicia Costas, David Uclés, and Maggie O'Farrell. Un país para leerlo, a literary magazine on La 2 hosted by Laura Chivite, premiered in 2022 and travels across Spain exploring literary history and emerging talent. The jury was chaired by María José Gálvez, Director General of Books, Comics and Reading, with Jesús González as vice president. Other jury members included David Felipe Arranz, Carolina Fernández, Natalia Zarco, Ángeles Mora, José Manuel Anta, Almudena Amador, Fernando Flores, Raquel Vega, and Joan Escrivà.
