Solveig Alegre Wins 2026 L'Œil Prize at French Artists Salon

Solveig Alegre has been awarded the L'Œil Prize at the 2026 Salon des Artistes Français. The announcement was made on March 30, 2026, in an article published by L'ŒIL magazine. Alegre, born in 1995 in Croix, Nord, grew up in Île-de-France before moving to Paris approximately a decade ago. She is both an artist and architect, drawing inspiration from her surroundings to create sensitive visual interpretations. Her artistic practice involves on-site sketching, with work emerging from observations and notes collected in journals during her travels and encounters. A graduate of the École d'architecture de Paris-Belleville, she approaches space as a pictorial subject, exploring it through drawing to master various project scales. To deepen her understanding of structures and typologies, she has traveled extensively to Italy, Sicily, Spain, the United States, and Mexico. After initial experience in an architecture firm, she shifted to teaching architecture, applied arts, and drawing while continuing to exhibit and work in Paris. From 2020 onward, her works have been featured in multiple galleries and events that brought her recognition. In 2023, she began her "New York" drawing series, cinematic ink works depicting a city filled with solitude and light, evoking atmospheres reminiscent of Wim Wenders' film "Paris, Texas." Her recent "Rideaux" series examines urban environments and temporality, capturing reflections in shop windows that suggest the impermanence of a world where businesses rapidly change and familiar landmarks dissolve. The award recognizes her contributions to contemporary art through her distinctive architectural approach to drawing and urban observation.
