Simons Foundation Opens 2027 Open Interval Call for Artist-Scientist Trios

award · 2026-09-15

The Open Interval initiative has been launched by the Simons Foundation, which will provide grants of $30,000 to arts organizations in the U.S. that partner with both a scientist and an artist for a duration of nine months. The theme for 2027 is "turbulence," and participants must attend an in-person Collaboration Weekend scheduled for May 23–26, 2027, in upstate New York. To apply, a curator must first submit a statement of interest, followed by project proposals from the artist and scientist. The 2025 cohort featured Xandra Eden, Christopher M. Johns-Krull, and Anahita Bradberry, who produced the exhibition spectral field. Applications are due by October 21, 2026, with webinars set for September 25 and October 5. Finalist interviews will take place from November 30 to December 17, with results announced on January 15, 2027.
