São Paulo's Brazilian Cuisine Renaissance: Evvai and Tuju Earn Three Michelin Stars
In April, Evvai and Tuju made history as the first Latin American establishments to be awarded three Michelin stars. Chef Luiz Filipe Souza of Evvai credits his fusion of Brazilian and Italian flavors to the inspiration he gained from the 2019 Bocuse d'Or. Tuju, which Ivan Ralston established in 2014, received its initial Michelin star shortly after its launch, followed by a second star in 2018. After closing due to the pandemic, Ralston refreshed Tuju's menu to reflect seasonal ingredients. In September, Tuju was honored with The Art of Hospitality award from The 50. Other prominent restaurants in São Paulo include Dom, founded by Alex Atala in 1999, and Maní, established by Helena Rizzo in 2006. A Casa do Porco specializes in pork from its own farm, while Aizomê offers "Nipo-Brazilian" cuisine.
