Ryoji Ikeda Wins 2026 Nam June Paik Prize

The Nam June Paik Art Center has revealed that Ryoji Ikeda, a media artist residing between Paris and Kyoto, will be the recipient of the 2026 Nam June Paik Prize. A ceremony to honor Ikeda is scheduled for 8 September at the center in Yongin. This accolade includes a solo exhibition at the center in 2027. Ikeda's artistic endeavors focus on sound and light through various installations and live performances. His previous solo exhibitions have taken place at notable venues such as the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, Park Avenue Armory in New York, and Centre Pompidou in Paris. Sabine Himmelsbach, director of the House of Electronic Arts in Basel, commended Ikeda for transforming the aesthetic language of media art, linking it to Paik's legacy in the realm of data and algorithms.
