Prix Pictet 12th Cycle Theme Announced: Jungle

award · 2026-07-10

The Prix Pictet, a leading photography prize focused on sustainability since 2008, has announced 'Jungle' as the theme for its 12th cycle. The theme was revealed at Les Rencontres d'Arles during an event at the Théâtre Antique, featuring a presentation by Alfredo Jaar, laureate of the previous 'Storm' cycle. Director Michael Benson emphasized the critical role of jungles as 'the great green lungs of the planet' and highlighted threats like deforestation, fires, and water degradation. The jury, chaired by Sir Tim Smit, will review global portfolios responding to the theme, with a shortlist of twelve photographers expected next summer. Additionally, Prix Pictet will host an exhibition at Paris Photo to mark the Pictet Group's new role as official partner. The prize operates on a biennial cycle, with previous themes including Fire, Storm, and Disorder. The winning work will embark on a global tour.
