Premi Miquel Casablancas 2026 Awards Announced at La Fabra in Barcelona

La Fabra Centre d’Art Contemporani in Barcelona hosts 'Encarnarse en la demora', the exhibition of finalists for the Convocatòria d’Arts Visuals Miquel Casablancas 2026, organized by Sant Andreu Contemporani. The show coincides with the awards ceremony, now a key platform for emerging art in Barcelona. The jury, comprising Carolina Ciuti (independent curator and director of this magazine), Ángel Calvo Ulloa (critic and independent curator), Irene Coscarella (independent curator), and Claudia Segura (head of the MACBA collection), evaluated 222 submissions. The curatorial project reflects on time and dwelling in an accelerated, uncertain context, with works exploring permanence, transit, and territory as embodied experience. Artists include Mariona Cañadas, Pedro Murúa, Viva, Mario Manso, Martaroc.work, Usama Mossa Chaty, Mourae, Laura Palau Barreda, Helena Ripoll, Francesc Ruiz Abad, and Marta van Tartwij. In the Obra category, Helena Ripoll won for 'Abrevadero cancán', a paper and iron sculpture inspired by construction structures. The Production prize went to Marc Anglès for 'Bailar el wifi', using chronophotography to visualize wireless waves, referencing Steve Jobs' hula hoop and the Torre de Collserola. In Research, Aïda Escarré and Lior Zalis shared the award for projects on spiritualism. The MARGEM studio won the Graphic Communication prize for its design work for international cultural institutions. The exhibition runs until September 19, 2026.
