Palaeontologist Sally Hurst Reflects on Superstars of STEM Program Experience

Sally Hurst, a palaeontologist and Casual Education Presenter at the Australian Museum, has completed the Superstars of STEM program run by Science and Technology Australia. The initiative selects 60 female and non-binary scientists annually to serve as role models, with Hurst participating in the 2022-2024 cohort. The program concluded with a gathering in Melbourne in November 2024. Participants received media training and mentoring, with Hurst noting guidance from whale scientist Dr. Vanessa Pirotta. Through the program, Hurst engaged with thousands of students globally, particularly focusing on rural outreach. The initiative aims to increase visibility of scientists and inspire future generations in STEM fields.
