Omolola Coker wins inaugural Myma Art Prize
Omolola Coker, an artist from Nigeria, has just received the first-ever Myma Art Prize, which comes with a $5,000 cash prize and a three-month residency at Nosona Studios in Benin City. This award is aimed at supporting emerging artists from Nigeria and Ghana. Originally from London but now living in Lagos, Coker specializes in batik fabric painting that delves into themes of heritage and home. Among the other nominees were Vincent Frimpong, Emmanuel Nana Frimpong Ellis, and Edward Prah, featured in the group exhibition 'What is Given' at Lagos's Yenwa Gallery until July 4. The prize, initiated in 2024 by Myma Belo-Osagie’s children, is backed by Metis Capital Partners and Ibe-Ejiogu, and seeks to promote artists' professional development.
