Ole Bielfeldt Wins 52nd Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition With Inkjet Printer Image
Ole Bielfeldt, an experimental photographer and student hailing from Cologne, Germany, secured the top spot in the 52nd Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition with his striking microscopic photograph of an inkjet printer in the act of depositing ink. Out of more than 1,800 submissions from 69 nations, judges identified 20 winners. Bielfeldt's innovative project involved reverse-engineering the printer and employing specialized equipment to photograph the ink droplets. Judge Quinten Geldhof commended the remarkable detail in the image. Justin Theodore Benttinen achieved fourth place with a close-up of a ballpoint pen tip, while Svenja Carolin Kling earned 11th place with an image of a sea urchin larva. Additionally, Nikon disqualified Ning Xu from first place in the Small World in Motion video contest due to eligibility concerns. All winning images can be viewed on the Nikon Small World website.
