Nathan Ambrosioni's 'Los niños están bien' Wins Audience Award at Málaga and FIPRESCI at Karlovy Vary

award · 2026-10-22

Written and directed by Nathan Ambrosioni, the French drama 'Los niños están bien' stars Camille Cottin as Jeanne, whose sister Suzanne (Juliette Armanet) arrives unannounced one summer night with her two children — a ten-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl — after months without contact. The next morning Jeanne finds a note; police confirm Suzanne made a voluntary, conscious decision to abandon the children and disappear, so no search can begin. Ambrosioni, twenty-six, previously made 'Toni, en famille' and 'Les drapeaux de papier'. He says the film observes those left behind and asks how to write about a woman who leaves her children without judging her. Cottin describes Jeanne as upright, honest and pragmatic, emotionally guarded and seemingly austere, perhaps shaped by her own wounds of abandonment. The cast also includes Monia Chokri, Manoa Varvat, Nina Birman and Guillaume Gouix, with cinematography by Victor Seguin and music by Alexandre de la Baume. The 111-minute French production from 2025 won the Audience Award in the Official Mosaico Section at the recent Málaga Film Festival and took Best Director and FIPRESCI prizes at Karlovy Vary. Cottin, born in Boulogne-Billancourt in 1978, appeared in Emmanuel Mouret's 'Tres amigas' in 2024 and has worked with Kenneth Branagh, Rémi Bezançon, Christophe Honoré, Ridley Scott, Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano.
