Natascha Sadr Haghighian Wins Inaugural LVM Art Prize for Public Art

Natascha Sadr Haghighian has been awarded the first LVM Art Prize for Art in Public Space for her installation "86° WALTER HALİT (2025)" on the roof of the Kassel government building. The work memorializes Walter Lübcke, murdered by a right-wing extremist in 2019, and Halit Yozgat, shot in his internet café in 2006, the last murder by the NSU. The jury, including museum directors Andreas Beitin and Noura Dirani, curator Britta Peters, and Monopol editor-in-chief Elke Buhr, praised the light sculpture for breaking the building's neutrality and creating a personal dimension of remembrance. Audio narratives and an interactive digital map integrate the memorial into daily life. The prize totals €50,000, including €25,000 prize money, an exhibition at LVM Campus, and discourse events in Münster and Kassel.
