Miami Music Project Awarded 2026 Sony Music Group Global Social Justice Fund Grant

award · 2026-10-20

Miami Music Project has been named a recipient of a 2026 grant from the Sony Music Group Global Social Justice Fund, funding that will underwrite direct costs and expenses tied to the nonprofit's programming and initiatives. The award supports the organization's use of music study and performance as a vehicle for youth development. Anna Klimala, President & CEO of Miami Music Project, called the recognition an honor and described music as an instrument of social transformation, noting that the organization has spent 18 years giving Miami's most vulnerable children and youth tools to thrive. She said the Sony Music support extends the group's programming and social impact beyond the classroom. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Miami Music Project provides free after-school instruction with no barriers to entry regardless of race or economic status, and has reached more than 33,000 children and youth across Miami-Dade County, positioning it among the largest socially transformative music initiatives in the United States. Its model draws on El Sistema, the global movement that uses music to change children's lives. The organization operates in seven local schools, delivering conservatory-level instruction three hours a day, five days a week; it reports that 100 percent of its senior students go on to higher education.
