Madrid Launches First Public Art Prize with €60,000 in Awards

The Madrid City Council's Area of Culture, Tourism and Sport has announced the first edition of its Public Art Prize, aimed at fostering artistic creation in urban spaces. The prize will award four grants of €15,000 each for ephemeral artworks to be installed in four locations in the Vicálvaro district. Proposals must be original, unpublished, and technically viable, without requiring electricity. Selected works will be exhibited during the Ephemeral Art and Landscape Festival in March 2027, lasting no more than a week. The deadline for submissions is July 10, 2026, 30 days after the announcement in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid. Participants must be legal residents of Spain and up-to-date with tax and social security obligations. The jury will evaluate artistic quality (up to 60 points) and technical quality (up to 40 points), with criteria including originality, conceptual response, site suitability, feasibility, simplicity of assembly, and sustainability. The city will not cover conservation; artists must remove works within three days after the festival.
