Louisa Pieper: Sound-Absorbing Paintings Nominated for Young Generation Art Award
Born in 1997, Louisa Pieper produces cushion artworks that are thickly painted and filled with foam, functioning as acoustic dampeners. Her series, titled "Hearing Antagonists," features themes such as a stove, water pistol, canoe scenery, and bus, all inspired by her personal experiences with hearing loss. Pieper's mission is to enhance accessibility in art environments. She completed her painting studies at Burg Giebichenstein, graduating in 2023, and also attended Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig as a guest student. She has been awarded a residency stipend at Künstlerhäuser Worpswede and a graduate stipend from Saxony-Anhalt. Currently, she is a finalist for the Young Generation Art Award, with her work showcased at Degussa in Berlin starting 27 November, with the winner to be revealed in February 2027.
