Lion Green Road Housing in Croydon Wins 2026 Stirling Prize

The Lion Green Road housing scheme in Croydon has been awarded the 2026 Stirling Prize, named the UK's best new building at a ceremony held in London. Mary Duggan Architects, a local studio, designed the project together with Ruff Architects. Croydon Council commissioned the development, which comprises 157 homes distributed across five blocks linked by a network of shared green spaces. Following the announcement, the project and its position among past Stirling Prize winners were examined on Dezeen Weekly, the publication's podcast. The same week brought the unveiling of Tesla's flying Roadster, demonstrated at an event in Texas where the vehicle launched off a ramp and briefly flew; the carmaker said compressed-air thrusters used in the demonstration will allow it to become the world's quickest production car. Apple also introduced HomeView, a device merging the functions of its app products and home-management software, built around a seven-inch screen that can sit on a base with an integrated speaker and serve as a centralised hub for home controls. Among the most-visited projects on Dezeen were a rammed-earth visitor centre for the Twelve Apostles in Australia, a monolithic concrete home in India and a cricket pavilion in Dulwich.
