Lion Green Road by Mary Duggan Architects Wins RIBA Stirling Prize 2026
On 15 October, the RIBA Stirling Prize 2026 was presented to Lion Green Road, a residential project in Croydon, crafted by Mary Duggan Architects in collaboration with RUFF Architects. This announcement marked the prize's 30th anniversary. The development comprises 157 homes arranged in five prismatic structures on a verdant hillside. The jury commended the design for addressing an 8m elevation change and safeguarding a scheduled monument associated with the Surrey Iron Railway. Its integration with the natural environment is notable, featuring textured brick and minimizing overlooking. The jury members included Chris Williamson, Stephanie Macdonald, Tracy Meller, Dr. Julie Godefroy, Will Gompertz, and Catherine Winfield. The shortlist also highlighted works by Sergison Bates, Bennetts Associates, Renzo Piano, Haworth Tompkins, and Witherford Watson Mann. Additionally, the RIBA International Prize 2026 recognized the Green Field Factory in Bangladesh, while the International Emerging Architect Award was given to Maker Architecten for their YIMBY project in Belgium.
