Kahlo Art Prize Offers $50,000 to Emerging Mexican Artists

Fundación Kahlo for Mexican Art and Culture has launched the Kahlo Art Prize, a biennial award for emerging Mexican artists. Recipients will receive a $50,000 stipend and exhibit at Museo Casa Kahlo in Mexico City's Coyoacán district, which opened in September 2025. The prize is supported by Phillips auction house, founded in London in 1796. Applications open in November. Mara Romeo Kahlo, the artist's grandniece and president of Fundación Kahlo, stated the prize reflects Kahlo's dedication to teaching and supporting other artists. Kahlo began teaching in 1928 and emphasized equality and mutual respect. Museo Casa Kahlo focuses on Kahlo's family and early childhood, complementing Casa Azul's focus on her adult life with Diego Rivera.
