International Booker Prize Doubles Purse to £100,000, Renamed Bukhman International Booker Prize

The Booker Prize Foundation revealed that beginning next year, the International Booker Prize will see its monetary award increased from £50,000 to £100,000, thanks to a decade-long pledge from Bukhman Philanthropies. In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the prize will be renamed the Bukhman International Booker Prize. The total prize money will still be divided equally between the author and translator, with each shortlisted book receiving £5,000, also shared equally. Additionally, the foundation announced the judging panel for 2027, led by author Katie Kitamura and including critic Patrick McGuinness, author Caleb Azumah Nelson, poet Olga Ravn, and actress Tessa Thompson. The longlist is set to be revealed on March 16, 2027, followed by the shortlist on April 15 and the winner announced in May. The 2026 recipient was Taiwan Travelogue by Yáng Shuāng-zǐ, translated by Lin King. CEO Gaby Wood expressed that this partnership aims to transform the literary scene.
