Hip-Hop Pioneer Slick Rick Receives Lifetime Achievement Honor at Mobo Awards

Ricky Walters, known as Slick Rick, will be presented with a lifetime achievement award at the Mobo Awards on Thursday. The ceremony will feature a performance by the artist alongside Estelle. Born in London in 1965 to Jamaican parents, Walters moved to the Bronx at age 11, where he developed his distinctive narrative rap style. His 1985 track 'La-Di-da-Di' holds the record as the most sampled hip-hop song. Throughout his career, he has influenced numerous artists and released acclaimed albums like 'The Great Adventures of Slick Rick' and 'The Art of Storytelling', despite facing legal challenges including imprisonment and immigration issues. He was granted a full pardon in 2008 and is now a naturalized U.S. citizen.
