Helen Mirren to Receive Douglas Sirk Award at Filmfest Hamburg 2024

Dame Helen Mirren will be honored with the Douglas Sirk Award at the 2024 Filmfest Hamburg, running from September 24 to October 3. The award, presented annually since 1995, recognizes outstanding contributions to cinema. Festival director Malika Rabahallah praised Mirren for her exceptional ability to imbue iconic figures with contradiction, humor, and humanity, citing her portrayals of historical personalities such as the Queen, Golda Meir, Catherine the Great, and Ayn Rand. Mirren, an Oscar, three Golden Globes, four BAFTAs, five Emmys, and two Cannes prizes winner, is among the most decorated actresses. The festival will also screen Anton Corbijn's 'Ein Talent fürs Morden' (A Talent for Murder), in which Mirren plays author Patricia Highsmith, who is persuaded by a young agent (Alden Ehrenreich) to write one last book about her famous character Tom Ripley. The film is described as a thriller. The award ceremony is a highlight of the festival, which features a lineup of international films.
