Haruka Sakaguchi Wins 2026 ICP Infinity Award for Documentary Practice

Haruka Sakaguchi has been honored with the 2026 Infinity Award for Documentary Practice and Photojournalism by the International Center of Photography (ICP). A freelance photographer born in Osaka, Japan, in 1990 and now residing in New York City, Sakaguchi's work delves into themes of cultural memory and intergenerational trauma. Her extensive documentary projects feature the experiences of atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as the stories of Japanese Americans who were incarcerated during WWII and their descendants. Additionally, she has created satirical portraits of Hollywood actors often placed in stereotypical roles. Recently, she directed the short film *Loyal American* in collaboration with the National Geographic Society.
