Frankenthaler Foundation awards $4.5m to 83 institutions for climate projects
On June 16, the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation revealed its 2026 cohort of grantees for the Frankenthaler Climate Initiative (FCI), distributing $4.5 million to 83 visual arts organizations nationwide. This sixth funding round elevates the total FCI investment to over $21.8 million since its inception in 2021, benefiting 295 institutions with grants aimed at enhancing energy efficiency, building performance, and clean energy systems. Launched in collaboration with Environment & Culture Partners, the initiative now encompasses 75% of U.S. territories. Grants vary from below $5,000 to $100,000, covering initial audits and significant renovations. Notable recipients include the Metropolitan Museum of Art ($25,000) and SculptureCenter ($100,000), with 46% of grantees returning for additional support.
