Eva & Franco Mattes Win 77th Premio Michetti with AI Video

The 77th edition of the Premio Nazionale di pittura Francesco Paolo Michetti, one of Italy's oldest art prizes, was awarded to Eva & Franco Mattes for their AI-generated video 'Are You Still There?' (2025). The jury, chaired by Cristiana Perrella and including Franco Pomilio, Pier Luigi Sacco, Carla Subrizi, and Andrea Viliani, also gave a special mention to Danilo Correale for 'Equivalent Units' (2017). The award ceremony took place on July 25, 2026, at the Museo Michetti in Francavilla al Mare, where the exhibition 'COSMOVISIONS' was inaugurated. Curated by Nicolas Bourriaud and Massimiliano Scuderi, the show features 20 artists and runs until September 13. The exhibition is inspired by the philosophy of Ailton Krenak, emphasizing human fragility and interconnectedness. It includes works by artists such as Jacopo Belloni, Benni Bosetto, Binta Diaw, and others, exploring themes of vulnerability and the role of AI in art. The Premio Michetti, established in 1947, is the second oldest in Italy after the Venice Biennale. The Fondazione Michetti, founded in 1952, houses the museum and works by Francesco Paolo Michetti, including 'Le serpi' and 'Gli storpi' (both 1900).
