EMΣT in Athens Wins European Art Museum Award for Social Impact
The National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens, known as EMΣT, was honored with the Art Museum Award from the European Museum Academy on September 26 in Alicante, Spain. This accolade recognizes EMΣT as a significant social institution within the art community. Earlier this month, EMΣT was nominated, eventually topping a competitive field that included renowned institutions such as the Rijksmuseum and Hastings Contemporary. Samuel Gallacher, the jury's leader, commended the museum for its innovative programming and societal contributions. Since its founding in 2000, EMΣT has ventured into various spaces, including its current location in a renovated brewery since 2015.
