Elisabeth Steinkellner Awarded 2026 Christine Nöstlinger Prize for Children's Literature

Austrian author Elisabeth Steinkellner has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Christine Nöstlinger Prize. The award, established in 2021, carries a monetary value of 10,000 euros and recognizes writers who give voice to children and underrepresented groups by adopting their perspectives. Steinkellner, born in 1981 in Lower Austria, succeeds previous winner Verena Hochleitner. The prize is named in honor of celebrated children's author Christine Nöstlinger, who would have celebrated her 90th birthday this year. The award ceremony will take place in 2026, continuing the tradition of honoring authors who contribute meaningfully to children's literature and advocate for marginalized voices through their work.
