David di Donatello 2020: 'Il traditore' leads with 18 nominations

At the 65th David di Donatello awards, 'Il traditore' by Marco Bellocchio stood out with a remarkable 18 nominations. Following closely were Matteo Rovere's 'Il primo re' and Matteo Garrone's 'Pinocchio'. The nominees were revealed by Piera Detassis, the president of the Accademia del Cinema Italiano, alongside Rai 1 director Stefano Coletta and host Carlo Conti. The academy is undergoing a reorganization to incorporate a greater number of audiovisual professionals. Among the nominees, particularly for best director, many are aged between 22 and 45, including Rovere, Claudio Giovannesi, and Pietro Marcello. Notably, the top five categories lacked female representation. 'Parasite' by Bong Joon-ho won Best Foreign Film, while Best Short Film went to Giulio Mastromauro's 'Inverno'. The Best Film nominees included 'Il primo re', 'Il traditore', 'La paranza dei bambini', 'Martin Eden', and 'Pinocchio'.
