Christine Wunnicke Wins 2025 Georg Büchner Prize

Christine Wunnicke has been awarded the Georg Büchner Prize, Germany's most prestigious literary award, for 2025. The prize is endowed with €50,000 and will be presented on October 25, 2025, in Darmstadt. Wunnicke is known for her historical novels that blend fact and fiction, often set in exotic locations. Her novel 'Die Dame mit der bemalten Hand' (2018) is set in 18th-century India and features a German mathematician and an Indian astronomer stranded on an island near Mumbai, exploring the limits of Enlightenment thinking. The jury praised her 'linguistic artistry' and 'narrative audacity.' Wunnicke's works include 'Adels und Adels' (2011) and 'Die Katze und der General' (2020). She is the 13th woman to win the prize since its inception in 1923.
