Buildner Announces Concrete Pavilion Competition Winners

Buildner has revealed the winners of its Concrete Pavilion competition, part of the Material Studies series. The competition challenged architects and designers to explore concrete's architectural potential through experimental pavilion designs. First prize went to 'Re-Maze' by Hamid Karimiantakbolagh, Saber Karamzadeh, Leila Nikjoosafa, and Amirmohammad Taheri from Austria, featuring a suspended volume of cylindrical concrete elements in a former industrial hall. Second prize was awarded to 'Cultivating Pavilion' by Nuttapol Techopitch from Thailand, reinterpreting rural water tanks as a dual-purpose agricultural and public space. Third prize went to 'Push Pull' by Koh Noguchi and Ssu-Kuo Lo from the United Kingdom, transforming a narrow urban gap into a micro-landscape. The Buildner Student Award was given to 'Folding Concrete' by Yi Yang and Chun Zhou from the University of Pennsylvania, proposing a thin-shell canopy using foldable plywood formwork. The Buildner Sustainability Award went to 'Earth Moves' by Lain James Maxwell from Australia, collaborating with supermanoeuvre, apeapeape, Arup, and University of Technology Sydney, featuring an earth-cast concrete pavilion in Somersby. Highlight projects included 'Elevated Nature' by Helena Kalčić from Slovenia. Other ongoing Buildner competitions include MICROHOME 2026, Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge, and The Next House: USA.
