award · 2026-06-08

The 2026 Beaker Street Science Photography Prize finalists have been announced as part of the 10th anniversary of Tasmania's Beaker Street Festival. This contest focuses on capturing nature's beauty and fragility through a scientific perspective. The chosen photographs tackle themes like endangered species, climate change, deep-sea ecosystems, dark sky conservation, and microscopic wonders. Some standout entries include Brett Guy's "The Holy Grail," showcasing bioluminescent algae alongside the aurora australis and Milky Way; Armando Ochoa Aguilar's "First Day," featuring one-day-old red handfish from a Hobart program; and Daniel van Duinkerken's "A Ghostly Chimaera," highlighting an Australian Ghostshark.
