2026 Sony Future Filmmaker Awards Winners Announced

The 2026 Sony Future Filmmaker Awards have revealed five winners across Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation, Student, and Future Format categories. Over 8,400 filmmakers from 162 countries entered. British filmmaker Jack Hughes won the Fiction category for "Deadheading," receiving a Sony imaging kit and $5,000. Singaporean Christine Seow won Non-Fiction for "Two Travelling Aunties." Danish Michelle Brøndum and Norwegian Ida Melum won Animation for "Ovary-Acting." Cuban student Ana A. Alpizar, studying at New York University, won the Student category for "Norheimsund." Nigerian filmmaker Innocent Yama Lamido won Future Format for "Creating Without Permission," a vertical video. The jury praised the winners for their confidence and global reach. The awards will return for a fifth edition in 2027, with entries opening in July.
