Titian's Treviso Annunciation Meets Sacred and Profane Love at Galleria Borghese
Between 20 October and 8 December 2026, the Galleria Borghese in Rome will present the exhibition titled 'Tiziano. Dialoghi tra Sacro e Profano. La Galleria Borghese incontra l'Annunciazione della cattedrale di Treviso,' under the curation of Maria Giovanna Sarti. This display will showcase Titian's Annunciation from Treviso Cathedral alongside his work Sacred and Profane Love. The Annunciation was relocated for the restoration of Pordenone's frescoes and had previously been loaned to Ancona. Recent conservation efforts uncovered an inscription bearing Titian's signature and a connection to Broccardo Malchiostro, the commissioner of both pieces. Painted in 1514, Sacred and Profane Love symbolizes a marriage allegory for Niccolò Aurelio and Laura Bagarotto. The exhibition is dedicated to Augusto Gentili and supported by various organizations. Titian was born circa 1485 in Pieve di Cadore.
