Raphael's Lady with a Unicorn Leaves the Met for a Free Show in Vimercate

exhibition · 2026-10-06

Raphael's "Lady with a Unicorn," created in the early 16th century and currently housed at the Galleria Borghese in Rome, has returned from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It will be displayed at the MUST – Museo del Territorio in Vimercate from 29 October to 11 December 2026, marking its debut in Lombardy. This loan is part of the La Grande Arte in Brianza initiative, supported by Fondazione Costruiamo il Futuro and others. The artwork, believed to depict a young woman with a unicorn, possibly Maddalena Strozzi, was reattributed to Raphael during the 20th century. Additionally, Vimercate is investing in cultural development by converting a former auditorium into a new Teatro civico.
