Press & Pull: la mostra del Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop inaugura prossimamente a Chicago
La mostra intitolata Press & Pull: Two Decades at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop debutterà a Chicago, mettendo in luce le attività del laboratorio sotto la Elizabeth Foundation of the Arts dal 2005. L'evento rende omaggio al suo fondatore, Robert Blackburn, nato a Summit, New Jersey, nel 1920 e fondatore del laboratorio nel 1947. Blackburn, che studiò litografia con Riva Helfond e Will Barnet, strinse amicizia con Jacob Lawrence. Tra i primi partecipanti di rilievo figurano Romare Bearden ed Elizabeth Catlett. Blackburn collaborò con Universal Limited Art Editions dal 1957 al 1963, realizzando Accident (1963) di Rauschenberg. Tra le opere esposte figurano I am Black (1973) di Billops e recenti contributi di Nontsikelelo Mutiti (2024) e Lizania Cruz (2023). Il laboratorio di stampa si trova attualmente al 323 West 39th Street, Manhattan.
