Parma's ParCO to Open in 2027 with Tarek Atoui's 'Wind Fields and Metal Flowers', Curated by Matteo Lucchetti

exhibition · 2026-09-10

Parma has secured PAC 2026 funding from the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Piano per l'Arte Contemporanea, positioning the city as a new model for cultural investment centered on collecting sound. The award supports ParCO, a new civic art and cultural hub curated and directed by Matteo Lucchetti, which will open in spring 2027 inside the historic spaces of the Ospedale Vecchio. Its inaugural project is Wind Fields and Metal Flowers by artist and composer Tarek Atoui, one of the most significant figures in contemporary sound research. Atoui's performances have been hosted by institutions including Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris and Tate Modern in London. At ParCO, the works will be installed at the center of a series of performances. Parma's musical identity is long established: the city hosts the Fondazione Parma Capitale della Musica, founded in 2004 together with the Ministry of Culture. Through the PAC 2026 prize, the city frames sound as a collectible artistic form, described as among the most immaterial and engaging of our time.
