Mire Lee's 'Open Wound' at Tate Modern: Art as Industrial Organism and AI's Hidden Body

In 2024, Mire Lee, a South Korean artist born in Seoul in 1988, unveiled her installation 'Open Wound' at Tate Modern's Turbine Hall, transforming the space into a dynamic factory. A seven-meter motorized turbine distributed a thick liquid onto fabric membranes, reshaping them. Technicians then moved these wet membranes to allow them to solidify before returning them to the hall, resulting in a collection of new forms. 'Open Wound' illustrated production as a cycle of movement and decay, reflecting the industrial nature of artificial intelligence. Featured in the eighth episode of 'L'arte anticipa il futuro', a series by School of Vision and ENI, it links Lee's work to Katherine Hayles' cybernetic culture theories.
