Marc Chagall Exhibition at ARCA in Vercelli Explores Memory as Portable Architecture

exhibition · 2026-04-03

An extensive exhibition celebrating the Belarusian artist Marc Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887 – Saint Paul de Vence, 1985) will take place at ARCA in Vercelli from 13 October 2026 to 29 March 2027. Curated by Paul Schneiter, the show presents fifty pieces that delve into Chagall's themes and his ties to Vitebsk, his hometown, which he lost during WWII, leaving him with a profound sense of nostalgia. Notable works include Villaggio Russo (1929), Gli innamorati con l'asino blu (circa 1955), and Il gallo viola (1966–1972). Additionally, a section curated by Daniele Fenaroli showcases pieces from the Collezione Giuseppe Iannaccone. The exhibition is set in the medieval church of San Marco, featuring restored frescoes alongside a modern glass-and-steel structure.
