LandEscape at Studio la Linea Verticale: Colliva, Maestroni, Valerio and Transcendental Painting

exhibition · 2026-09-26

From 24 September to 14 November 2026, Studio la Linea Verticale in Bologna will host LandEscape, a collective exhibition featuring the works of Alberto Colliva (1943–2023, Bologna), Filippo Maestroni (Faenza, 1994), and Claudio Valerio (Popoli, Pescara, 1991). This event serves as a precursor to an upcoming exhibition focused on Vienna-based artists associated with the Transcendental Painting Group, established in New Mexico in 1938. LandEscape showcases a blend of the artists' creations, including Maestroni’s ceramic vases and triptychs, Colliva’s circular canvases and smaller landscapes, along with Valerio’s charcoal drawings. The exhibition's title evokes a sense of liberation from the earthly, intertwining themes of escape and landscape.

  • Claudio Valerio produces his own charcoal by burning wood and uses it for its light-absorbing quality.
  • Valerio’s L’idiota and L’infame are wood fragments painted with charcoal, oil, and natural resin, where burnt wood returns as pigment.
