Handle with Care: Sixth Swiss Territorial Biennale in Ticino Reframes Architecture as an Act of Care

The sixth Swiss territorial biennale, titled Handle with Care, is being showcased by the Istituto Internazionale di Architettura di Lugano under the direction of Ludovica Molo. This event focuses on the importance of care in architecture, particularly in relation to demolition and land use. Filippo Lombardi from Lugano's Dicastero dello sviluppo territoriale remarked, "what gets built stays." A guided tour from Giubiasco station illustrated the pressures on green spaces. Urbanist Maarit Ströbele pointed out that Switzerland’s identity as a rural nation masks its urban development. Cristina Bocchi emphasized local opposition to project initiatives. Cooperativa Radice promoted collective housing responsibility, while Anna Puigjaner cautioned against care-washing. The event concluded with Aurelio Galfetti's final building and discussions on landscape preservation, with Xu Tiantian and Pascual Gangotena wrapping up. Ten Actions from 246 entries are exhibited at Villa Saroli park until 28 November.
