David Chipperfield Returns to Milan's MUDEC After Decade-Long Rift with City
The Comune di Milano has tasked David Chipperfield Architects with the redesign of the permanent collection galleries at MUDEC, the Museo delle Culture, more than a decade after the initial design. This initiative will increase the exhibition area from 500 to around 1,000 square meters, focusing on reorganizing rooms, improving visitor pathways, and enhancing lighting and display methods. David Chipperfield, awarded the Pritzker Prize in 2023, previously expressed concerns about the museum's construction quality in 2015, which led to a legal dispute settled in 2017. This new undertaking occurs during a period of administrative changes as the Comune reassesses MUDEC's management, aiming to strengthen the museum's public role and tackle issues related to object provenance and narratives in ethnographic collections.
