Cristiano Berti's Lety Exhibition at Palazzo Santoni Jesi Confronts Rom Porrajmos
At the Palazzo Santoni in Jesi, multimedia artist Cristiano Berti (b. 1967) showcased an exhibition in September titled Lety, which includes a short film that chronicles the experiences of two young disabled people from the Slovak Roma community. The film concludes at Lety, Czech Republic, a historical site of deportation and extermination during the Nazi regime, where a ceremony commemorating the Porrajmos takes place. The communist regime constructed a pig farm there in an effort to erase its history. Accompanied by a lament sung by the film's protagonists, Berti's work highlights social awareness and field research. His previous publication, Eredi Boggiano (Quodlibet, 2023), focuses on enslaved laborers in Cuba, contrasting archival methods with pictorialism to advocate for marginalized victims.
