Corrado Veneziano Stages Surveillance Maze at Rome Art Week 2026
For the eleventh edition of Rome Art Week, Corrado Veneziano presents the project "Oscurato il potere delle chiavi" in his Rome atelier at Via Reno 18/a, open 23–25 October 2026 from 17:00 to 20:00 with free admission. The title comes from the opening line of a very short poem by Paul Celan, which concludes with the image of the fang ruling since the Cretaceous against the world's instant. Veneziano reads Celan's warning against a present marked by police tensions — controls, surveillance, AI, conformism and hardening of behaviour and identity. During the event he will paint live on a 220×400 cm canvas depicting wild boars, rhinoceroses and bison facing the viewer, almost attacking them. The atelier will be entirely rearranged to evoke the confinement people endure daily in increasingly closed spaces declared "protected": visitors must follow serpentine routes, pass barbed wire, go through turnstiles and submit to facial recognition. The fangs in the painting, the destination of the route, become more immanent and necessary — salvific. Works from earlier cycles are also on view.
