Colombo's Archive Opens in Milan, Tracing Design, Industry and Art Across Three Generations
Antonio Colombo has officially opened Colombo's Archive located at Via dei Pestagalli 31 in Milan, a 500-square-metre facility that once produced Columbus bicycles during the 1970s and 1980s. Accessible by appointment, the archive houses a collection of documents, furniture, catalogues, and artworks that reflect the family's legacy. Its inception traces back to 1933, when industrialist Angelo Luigi Colombo partnered with Marcel Breuer to license designs for production in Italy. Colombo worked alongside prominent architects, marking the beginning of an Italian tubular-metal era. In the late 1970s, Antonio Colombo assumed leadership, acquiring Cinelli and collaborating with artists such as Alessandro Mendini. The archive showcases pieces by Mario Schifano and Nathalie Du Pasquier, with curator Melania Andronic highlighting important historical items.
