Bassano del Grappa Hosts Sebastião Salgado Retrospective from MEP Collection, Paired with Canova Restoration

exhibition · 2026-09-18

From October 24, 2026, until April 4, 2027, the Musei Civici di Bassano del Grappa will present an exhibition featuring 160 images by Sebastião Salgado, sourced from the MEP – Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. Curated by Pascal Hoël, the exhibit, titled 'Sebastião Salgado. Fotografie della collezione Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Parigi,' highlights five decades of Salgado's artistry. Barbara Guidi, the director, emphasized the natural partnership, given that MEP houses the largest collection of Salgado's works. The exhibition will be organized both chronologically and thematically, with various series displayed on the ground floor and 'Genesis' on the first floor. Additionally, Bassano will restore Antonio Canova's 'Cavallo colossale,' both initiatives bolstering the city’s bid for Capitale Italiana della Cultura 2029.
