Alex Caminiti Brings Superheroes to Vicenza Prefect Convention, Then Palermo

Alex Caminiti's exhibition 'Santi Eroi' debuted at a convention of Italian prefects in Vicenza, featuring about twenty works that engage with Giambattista Tiepolo's frescoes. Caminiti, who collaborates with the Gas collective—founded by three international artists and now comprising around fifty members from four continents—explains that Tiepolo's intense reds and oranges inspired his palette. The show includes pieces created by six, four, and eight hands, echoing historical workshops like that of the Tiepolos. After Vicenza, the exhibition will travel to Palermo in November, moving from the stables of Villa Cordellina Lombardi to those of Palazzo Cefalà, where it will include a tribute to Rosalia and other patron saints of the Sicilian capital. Caminiti notes that the prefects, like his superheroes, lack superpowers but often possess superior preparation compared to those in government. The Gas collective, whose name derives from the initials of its first three international founders, aims to create global art as a form of aggregation, with members drawing inspiration from one another. The Vicenza presentation coincides with the prefects' meeting, and Caminiti saw it as an opportunity to showcase his superheroes amid current geopolitical tensions.
